| Routes for touring the city You need two days to see Syracuse, even just glancing at it. We suggest dedicating the first day to the monuments of Ortigia; Start from Piazza Archimede and go: Palazzo Lanza, Palazzo Bosco, Palazzo Vermexio, Cathedral, former Doric temple of Minerva, Archaeological Museum, Palazzo Bellomo Museum, Arethusa Fountain, Tropical Acquarium, the Maniace Castle. You can begin the second day by visiting the Capuchin Latomie (underground labyrinths) and then the Catacombs of San Giovanni and the Crypt of San Marziano, the Roman Amphitheatre, the Roman Swimming-pool, the Greek Theatre, Dionysus’ Ear, the Cordari Grotto, the Altar of Hieron II, Archimedes Tomb, Dionysus Wall and the Eurialo Castle. Also to be recommended, the trip to the River Anapo and the source of the River Ciane, by boat leaving from the Foro Italico.
